Amazon Japan changes distribution centre process for FBA sellers

May 10th, 2018

From May 2018, Amazon has made an important change that effects companies sending stock to the company’s distribution centres in Japan under the FBA scheme.

Previously to this date, FBA sellers were able to select their distribution centre of choice when generating the bar code stickers required for their shipments into Japan.

However, from May 2018 the Amazon system will automatically make the assignment of the distribution centre that will be the final destination of the good for the seller.  This is because Amazon needs to balance distribution more evenly across centers, as the company’s business has been growing strongly.

The significance of this change for sellers is that shipments could henceforth have to enter Japan either through Tokyo Airports (NRT, HND) or Osaka (KIX).  Therefore, sellers will need customs agents (ACP or Importers of record) to cover both regions.

This change is something that eBiz Japan can accommodate for our ACP customers who subscribe to our full FBA Japan support packages.
